Sorry, folks, I just don't have it in me anymore.
For those who have been loyal readers -- you know who you are, and you know I know who you are -- and even for those who just stop by once in a blue moon, I regret to say that I'm hanging up the W.I. Sportswriter blog.
Regulars know that not long ago my job at the Telegraph Herald underwent a significant change, and when that did so did my writing here at W.I. Sportswriter. The problem with that, for me, was that when I was writing about the things I covered, I felt like I was at least somewhat an authority on the subject, and that I was still providing a service to W.I. readers.
When that changed -- when I stopped exclusively covering SW Wisconsin sports -- I no longer had the items of real interest to W.I. readers. So while the shift to Wisconsin's major sports -- Packers, Brewers, Badgers, Bucks -- was an interesting experiment, I don't feel it was anywhere near as informative or useful as when I was writing about things I knew much more about.
To those who still visited and maybe even enjoyed doing so, I thank you and apologize. But it does take time and effort to put into doing this little ditty, and if I don't feel strongly about the content I'm putting into it, I have a hard time justifying the time taken away from doing other things in my life.
This sucks. Make no mistake, I am very disappointed. When W.I. was going strong, I was covering SW Wisconsin sports and relaying every interesting bit of info I could both in the TH and then here at W.I. I really liked the blog, enjoyed doing it, and -- again, this is the key -- felt I was actually providing a reader service with this site.
I no longer feel that way. Thus, W.I. Sportswriter has come to an end.
Permanent? Who knows what the future holds? But I wouldn't hold too many hopes of a revival. For the time being, I will leave this one last post up for anyone who wishes to post a comment. All -- good, bad or otherwise -- are appreciated, as always. And once more as always, feel free to send me an e-mail if you like.
I sincerely thank all those who stopped by W.I. Sportswriter, no matter how regularly. And from the bottom of my heart I wish it could have had a longer shelf life.
Who knows. Perhaps one day our internet paths will cross again.
Until then, good-bye, and thank-you for reading.
